Cray Inc. (the company that virtually invented the supercomputer) and Intel have signed a multi-year agreement to develop and introduce future Cray supercomputers that will feature Intel processors as well as new Intel and Cray technologies. The two industry leaders are collaborating to develop high performance computing systems that will help solve some of the world's most complex scientific, engineering and humanitarian challenges. Epic Games, Inc., the award-winning developer of multimillion-selling games and the world's leading game engine, Unreal Engine 3, announced plans to follow up the original "$1 Million Make Something Unreal Contest" with an all new competition to include esteemed sponsor, Intel Corporation. An Intel and Microsoft research alliance is the largest U.S. joint effort to date on mainstream parallel computing. To bring the benefits of multi-core processing into the mainstream, researchers will make parallel computing easier for developers. The research adds to existing parallel computing programs at Microsoft, Intel, the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Mar 2008

Intel CEO Paul Otellini took the stage at Macworld to help Apple CEO Steve Jobs announce the 13.3" MacBook Air. Jobs called the Air the world's thinnest notebook, ranging from 0.16-0.74 inches in width. To do so, Jobs said that Apple asked Intel to reduce the processor package by 60%. Intel delivered by bringing the package of the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor to "the width of a dime, thick as a nickel." The Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs and Intel Taiwan signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly accelerate the commercial deployment of WiMAX in Taiwan. The collaboration is also expected to enhance the global competitiveness of Taiwan-originated WiMAX offerings through greater interoperability with WiMAX infrastructure in other countries. Apr 2008
Intel Capital announced its second China investment fund, the Intel Capital China Technology Fund II. The new US$500 million fund will be used for Intel Capital investments in wireless broadband, technology, media, telecommunications and "clean tech" that complement Intel's corporate initiatives and help expand technology market segments in China. Intel Chairman Craig Barrett kicked off his fourth visit to the Gulf region by pledging technical support for building a high-speed wireless network in the country using a long-range wireless technology known as WiMAX. Intel has redefined diversity to extend beyond the original focus on employee diversity to include global suppliers. This led to the creation and expansion of a formal global supplier diversity program.
