Motion Computing J3500 Rugged Tablet PC

Motion Computing launches its newest J3500 rugged tablet PC for mobile workers. The new J3500 features a 12.1-inch capacitive dual touch display with LED-backlit and Gorilla glass. Optional ViewAnywhere screen can be equipped for outdoor use.
 Motion’s J3500 is boosted by Intel’s Core i7 or i5 processor, 2GB of RAM (max 4GB) and 160GB hard drive or optional 64GB/128GB SSD. It supports WiFi and comes with optional integrated Gobi2000 mobile broadband with GPS. The tablet pc also includes increased security with fully manageable hard drive encryption, and Intel Anti-Theft technology used with Computrace, protecting valuable data in case of loss or theft.
 The J3500 meets MIL-STD-810G and IP-52 ratings to ensure protection against bumps, drops, rain or other conditions. It starts at $2299.

Motion Computing C5v and F5v Rugged Tablet PCs with Intel Anti-Theft

In addition to the J3500, Motion Computing also brings the C5v Mobile Clinical Assistant (MCA) and F5v mobile field tablet PC. Both of them have a rugged design and meet MIL-STD-810G and IP-52 or IP-54 ratings. They include the Intel Anti-Theft Technology (Intel AT) with built-in intelligence to disable the tablet in the event that it is lost or stolen.
 Powered by Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, the C5v and F5v get 1GB of RAM and 160GB hard drive or optional 64GB SSD. They have integrated WiFi 802.11b/g/n connectivity and can be equipped with Gobi 2000 mobile broadband module. Other options available include 1D/2D barcode scanner, 13.56MHz RFID reader with ISO 15693 support, 3 Megapixel camera, front-facing camera.
Motion’s C5v and F5v both sport 10.4-inch 1024×768 LED-backlit display with Gorilla glass and optional ViewAnywhere. They start at $2299 and $2548 respectively.

Seagate Pulsar – it’s first Solid State Drive

Finally, Seagate announced its first solid state drive, the Pulsar, which is targeted at enterprise blade and general server applications instead of consumer market. The 2.5-inch Pulsar is based on single-level cell (SLC) technology and offers up to 200GB capacity.
The Seagate Pulsar uses SATA 3Gb/s interface. It delivers a a peak performance of up to 30,000 read IOPS and 25,000 write IOPS, 240MB/s sequential read and 200 MB/s sequential write speeds.

 IO-DATA launches in Japan the HDJ-UT series USB 3.0 SuperSpeed external hard drive. Thanks to the new USB 3.0 interface, the HDJ-UT provides up to 5Gbps transfer rate. It is also backward compatible with USB 2.0.
The IO-DATA HDJ-UT is available in 1TB (HDJ-UT1.0) and 1.5TB (HDJ-UT1.5) capacities, which are priced at 21000 Yen and 25300 Yen respectively. They will be released in December.

Toshiba MK3233GSG 1.8-inch 320GB Hard Drive



 Toshiba introduces a new line of 1.8-inch hard drive with up to 320GB capacity which is the industry’s highest for 1.8-inch HDDs, replacing the company’s 250GB MK2529GSG. The new line is available in 160GB (MK1633GSG), 250GB (MK2533GSG) and 320GB (MK3233GSG) capacities. The 320GB model has industry’s highest areal density of 801 Mbit/mm2 (516 Gbpsi).
Toshiba’s new 1.8-inch hard drives run at 5400RPM spin speed and have 16MB  of buffer memory. They use SATA 3Gbps inteface. These drives deliver highly efficient power consumption, high-level durability and quiet seek operation, making them ideal for use in netbooks, CULV netbook, MIDs..etc.

Stealth introduces a new LittlePC, the LPC-395F fanless mini PC. Based on Atom processor, the LPC-395F has a rugged aluminum light-weight chassis. It has front loaded removable media slots for both Hard Drive and Compact Flash cards.

Stealth LPC-395F is boosted by Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, up to 2GB of memory, and built-in GMA 950 graphics. It has rooms for a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive and a CompactFlash memory card. The mini PC has dual Gigabit Ethernet ports and optional WiFi 802.11g module. SSD drives are available as options.

Toshiba 640GB External Hard Drive

Toshiba adds 640GB model to its external hard drive lineup, joining 500GB and 320GB models. The new 640GB USB hard drive is based on the company’s new 2.5-inch 640GB (MK6465GSX) hard drive.

Toshiba’s 640GB drive will come NTI Shadow 4 for Macs and NTI BackupNow EZ for Windows backup software. It is available in Liquid Blue, Vivid White, Rocket Red and Komodo Green colors, for $179.99.

Hitachi SimpleTOUGH and SimpleDRIVE Mini Portable Hard Drives

Hitachi announced two lines of USB 2.0 external hard drives, the SimpleTOUGH and the SimpleDRIVE. The SimpleTOUGH is a rugged external hard drive that is water- and shock-resistant. It can sustain a three meter drop (9.8 feet) and able to withstand the pressure of a one-ton class commercial truck. Based on Hitachi’s TravelStar hard drives, the SimpleTOUGH is available in 250GB ($99.99), 320GB ($119.99) and 500GB ($149.99) capacities.

Samsung to offer self-encrypting SSDs

Samsung and Wave System have partnered to offers the industry’s first self-encrypting SSDs. These new SSDs will feature Full disk encryption (FDE) with Wave’s EMBASSY management software.

Samsung’s new self-encrypting SSDs will automatically encrypt information as it’s saved to the drive. These SSDs come in both 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch form factor and are available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities.
